For I Was Hungry...

We are honored to be part of the Blog For Asia program through Gospel for Asia (GFA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to reach people in the unreached areas of Asia. Nearly 3 billion people in the world are still unreached by the Word of God, and in India alone there are over 500,000 villages with no witness!

Once per month, Eating Eden will be blogging for Asia about topics affecting the poorest of the poor. Our goal is to raise awareness, provide information and inspire our readers while serving Jesus through the written words in our blog.

We do not receive monetary compensation. We have a heart for the unreached and know that Gospel For Asia is a solid and focused ministry with 100% of support dollars sent directly to the field for intended purposes; nothing whatsoever is deducted for administrative reasons.

Sometimes we take for granted the abundance of food available here in the "land of plenty". Each and every one of us is guilty of doing this.

We have every type of food item that we can imagine available right at our fingertips.

We overeat; we over indulge.

We waste food.

The sad reality is that's not the case through-out most of the world...

Imagine with me for a moment that you are so hungry that you have to resort to eating dirt just to fill your belly? What you don’t know is that mud has toxic chemicals in it. As you get sicker and sicker you wonder if anyone can help you. You’ve heard stories of people in the city or in the west who have so much food they actually throw a lot of it away. Yet, you sit in the quarry starving.

The reality throughout India is that over 2 million children die of hunger each year - that’s 6,000 children every day! Along with malnutrition come frequent diarrhea, malaise, and dehydration. For the poorest of the poor quality medical care is non-existent.

The prevalence of malnourishment in India is among the highest in the world, and in places it is nearly double that of sub-Sahara Africa.

But, you can make a difference in someone's life.

By feeding your family more a "healthier" diet, you can make a difference in a child's life half-way across the globe.
How?

Re-think what you are feeding your family, and save money on your weekly grocery bill. Use that savings to help a child in need.

• Commit to Meatless Monday every week and you'll save approximately $5 to $10 (or more!) on your weekly grocery bill. Go one step farther and commit to a "Meatless Wednesday" (or Thursday, or Friday) and save another $5 to $10 every week!

• Instead of store-bought loaves of bread that cost $1.50 to $4.99 each, try baking your own (no, you do not need a bread machine)! In the long run, you save money.

• Forgo that case of plastic bottled water! Not only is this good for the Earth, but saves you money. Get a reusable bottle and a filter for your tap water. Initially, it may cost you a few bucks but you'll end up saving $5 or more per week in bottled water!

• Buy in bulk: flour, rice, grains, oats, etc. You save dollars when you buy items in bulk.

• Skip the drive-through coffee just ONE day per week and save yourself $1.25 to $4.99 (that's $5 to $20 per month)!

If you only incorporated Meatless Monday every week, you would still save $5 to $10 per week - and, that's $20 to $40 per month!

The cost of sponsoring a child?

A child sponsorship through GFA provides a daily wholesome & balanced meal, education, medical care, clothing and the Good News of Jesus Christ!

100% of your gift goes to help the child you sponsor. You can read about Gospel For Asia's financial principles HERE.

So, ask yourself this question, and then pray on it and see how God answers:
Can you not eat meat one night per week so a child in India can eat every day?

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.
Matthew 25:35
